Privacy Legislation - Getting Ready
2 April 2001 at 1:04 pm
The commencement date for the new Privacy (Private Sector) Amendment Act is just nine months away. If you haven’t begun preparing for it yet help is on the way.
The Office of the Federal Privacy Commissioner’s “Privacy Connections Network” is offering to help any organisation whatever your progress is in the lead up to the commencement date.
Maxine Loynd from Privacy Connections says the group is offering a number of activities that Not for Profits may find useful including discussing the forthcoming draft of the National Privacy Principle Guidelines.
These guidelines will document the Privacy Commissioner’s interpretation of how the principles will work in practice
She says meetings can be organised state by state with other Privacy Connections Network members to share ideas and discuss privacy codes, find out what the costs are and what other organisations are doing.
Loynd says she’d love to hear from anyone with needs or ideas that these activities may not address and to help link up with other interested groups.
Why not share your organisation’s plans, and progress at the Pro Bono Australia website forum at probonoaustralia.com.au.
