There are several dozen American sites such as the clever MissionFish.com site which takes donated goods and auctions them as the “catch of the day” and All Star Charity.com which gives 100 percent of proceeds to the given charity, as well as the more commercial sites offering charity-auction ‘specials’.
The world-wide online auction group eBay.com has a charity section on its Australian site providing all the information on how to hold your own Not for Profit auction.
The site claims that over $90,000 has been raised for good causes by eBay Australia and $2.5 million by eBay world-wide since January 2000. Check out the site at http://pages.ebay.com.au/charity/
A newer player in Australia is SOLD.com which has a charity auction section called Heart & SOLD.com. The site has direct links to ten organisations that it sponsors and links to any current special charity or community auctions it is running. To find out how they work, e-mail them at heart@mail.sold.com.au
Auto Auctions Australia has the Leukemia Foundation as it’s chosen charity. When Pro Bono Australia checked out the site a Berlina Wagon was being actioned for the Foundation.
Another site that is under re-construction is Treasured.com. It claims to offer high quality memorabilia at special rates for charity auctions. When the site is up and running again check it out at www.treasured.com.au.
