Ever wondered how to find an American philanthropist or US conglomerate willing to help your cause back in Australia? A UK publishing company, formed by two former charity directors in 1997 to publicise fundraising opportunities around the world, may have the answer.

Chapel and York Limited has just produced three fundraising directories and guides to grantmakers based in the United States.

Chapel and York says its publications focus on fundraising from American sources because they have the largest amount of philanthropic funds in the world and American funders are increasingly global in their activities and interests. Over 2.5 billion American dollars go to international activities each year.

The Directory of American Grantmakers gives the grant making interests and contact details of over 300 American Trusts and Foundations. Each one has indicated interest in funding individuals and charitable activities outside the USA.

The guide also explains the steps you need to follow to get funding from US Foundations. ($A116 + postage)

Fundraising From America is the ‘how to’ book, and it explains in detail how to fundraise from American individuals, Trusts and Foundations and companies. It also explains the technical information about American tax laws and legal issues that charities outside the US need to know. ($A95 +postage)

The third publication is called www.Grantmakers and it’s a 90-page directory of grantmakers’ web sites in Canada, Europe, the UK and the USA. It lists the web sites of 1100 private and corporate Trusts and Foundations as well as the charitable activities they support. ($A50 + postage)
