Computers - A Call for Help
11 September 2000 at 12:09 pm

An appeal to e-Newsletter readers this week from Judi-Ann Leggetts from DSP Australia Inc (Disability Support Pensioners) for donations of any computers that are not being used.

Leggetts says she is looking for second hand computers to give to her DSP members who are housebound, so that her organisation can keep an eye on them over the Internet.

She says she is aware that from time to time companies do upgrade their computers and throw the old one out!

‘We would give these computers to our members who have no hope of being able to buy them and it would help them communicate with us each day (via e-mail) so that we can ensure they are ok’.

She is also hoping that many young pensioners will have access to a computer in time for a National Internet Conference on Saturday 14th October. The topic will be ‘What impact has the GST had on your life as well as welfare reform changes?’

DSP Australia Inc is also in need of a small photocopier to produce their newsletter with.

Judi-Ann Leggett can be contacted via e-mail at judiann@vicnet.net.au or by snail mail at P.O. Box 2092 Werribee 3030 Victoria or phone/fax 03 9742 5530.

In a search of the Internet, Probono has found two organisations that help Not for Profits with second hand computers as well as accepting donations of used equipment.

Try www.computerbank.org.au and in Victoria, the Equipment Recycling Network Inc has set up the Dodo Project to reuse computer parts to assist Not for Profits. Go to www.dodo.org.au.
