Aussie e-Petitions

Following our story last issue regarding the US Internet petition site, e-The People, it’s great to hear that we have some innovative Aussies on a similar mission.
The Australian Conservation Foundation reports a new addition to its ACF web site called Activists Online!
The ACF’s Development Program Coordinator, Michael Fogarty says Activists Online doesn’t attempt to be a comprehensive petition service (and you certainly can’t pay your parking fines online) but it does enable people to directly interact with the democratic process.
Fogarty says the site provides draft letters on the most topical conservation issues (which are currently Genetic Engineering, Nuclear waste dumps and Land clearing) and a means to send a letter to any House of Representatives MP.
A link to the Australian Electoral Commission enables people to find out what electorate they are in and who their political representative is.
