Celebrities and Charities- How can we get together

Looking for ways to raise the profile of Charities and Not for Profits is always challenging and the idea of using a high profile ‘name’ can work wonders but how can you find these celebrities?

Gaynor Wheatley from the Starlight Children’s Foundation knows only too well the hard work that is involved with asking, begging and cajoling her own friends in the arts and entertainment world for help.

Gaynor says a National Register of celebrities would make life so much easier for fundraisers and Foundations alike.

The idea is being considered by Foundations in the US but has yet to get off the ground.

A National Register could help Not for Profit groups identify which celebrities or high profile people were interested in their causes.

It could also help people in the world of entertainment, sport, media, theatre and the like, obtain information about the issues that interest them, and then connect them with the right groups.

Just look how the profile of Parkinson’s Disease has sky rocketed because American actor, Michael J. Fox has the disease, or the impact on spinal injuries research because of “Superman” star Christopher Reeve, as well as the raised profile of breast cancer because of Olivia Newton John.

Whether you want a celebrity ambassador for your cause or just a ‘name’ to attend an event, the process can be time consuming and often unsuccessful. Could a National Register overcome these problems?
