The Organisation
Far West Community Legal Centre Ltd (FWCLC Ltd) has been serving the communities of the Far West for over twenty years, providing a range of services including free legal advice and representation and support services to people most in need.
FWCLC Ltd is funded to deliver four separate programs:
- Staying Home Leaving Violence, with offices in both Broken Hill and Wentworth
- Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service, based in Broken Hill and regularly servicing Wilcannia and Wentworth during respective court weeks
- Warra Warra Legal Service, based in Broken Hill and servicing communities across the Far West, providing specialist Family Violence Prevention Legal Services through lawyers, counsellors and client support workers to provide holistic wrap around assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and
- Far West Community Legal Centre based in Broken Hill and servicing communities across the Far West, to provide free legal services including representation and advice, advocacy, referral, community education, outreach and law reform.
The Far West Community Legal Centre Ltd is a registered charity overseen by a volunteer board of directors.

The Role
This is a key position leading and managing a multidisciplinary team of solicitors, counsellors and community workers in their delivery of a range of specialised, trauma-informed programs, legal information, advice, casework and services to vulnerable members of the community.
Reporting to and working closely with the board of directors, you will support and shape organisational capability and mentor middle management into a leadership team including:
- Lead the delivery of strategic directions set by the Board and drive a high performing organisation
- Devise strategies for ensuring the long-term financial viability of the organisation, including diversifying its service offering
- Oversee the effective and efficient operations of the organisation, manage its compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and drive continuous business improvements
- Provide technical advice and support to the team of multidisciplinary managers
- Manage and work closely with key stakeholders, the Aboriginal community and pro-bono partners
- Build organisational capability with a focus on team development and risk management
- Identify risks and issues impacting service delivery, stakeholder relationships and projects
- Oversee the development of annual budgets and performance reporting to funding agencies
Skills Required
You will bring a blend of management and mentorship experience leading a team, alongside solid legal technical skills. Your background may be community legal or as a principal/manager of a legal practice. You’ll bring to Far West Community Legal Centre Ltd a focus on risk management and continuous improvement, and you will have:
- Strong experience in legal processes ideally relevant to criminal, family violence, family law or child protection and or experience with working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
- An understanding or, or ability to quickly acquire an understanding of the National CLC Accreditation scheme and Risk Management Guide
- Interest in coaching and mentoring the team into strong people leaders
- A demonstrated commitment to social justice issues
- You will be a qualified solicitor with a practicing solicitor certificate
