About the role

ROLE OVERVIEW

Cancer Council ACT (CCACT) is seeking expressions of interest for two volunteer Board Members to enhance our purpose.  We seek directors who will bring business acumen, sound knowledge of corporate governance, new energy and commitment; and in particular those with experience in one or more or the following areas:

  • Expertise in Financial management or accounting
  • Expertise in Philanthropy and partnerships
  • Oncology or general medical practice
  • Data capability, cyber security and information technology specialist.

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Commitment: Applicants should demonstrate dedication and have or be willing to actively engage in board activities, attend meetings, participate in discussions, and fulfill their responsibilities,
  • Integrity: Board members must exhibit high ethical standards and serve as role models for the organisation and its stakeholders.
  • Accountability: Effective board members follow through on commitments, meet deadlines, and are accountable for their actions and decisions. 
  • Leadership and influence: They inspire others, motivate stakeholders, and advocate for the organisation’s mission and goals. 
  • Continuous learning: Effective board members stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and emerging issues relevant to the organisation and good governance. 

 

BOARD RESPONSIBILITES

As a Board member you will oversee implementation of the strategic plan, and:

  • Be committed to the vision, purpose and values of CCACT.
  • Act in accordance with the CCACT Constitution and the CCACT Code of Conduct.
  • Prepare for and attend at least six Board meetings per year.
  • Be willing to participate in CCACT Board Sub-committees (Governance; Research; Finance Risk and Audit) from time to time.
  • Review, advise on and approve the organisation’s strategic priorities from time to time.
  • Support or assist with CCACT’s fundraising campaigns and events (by participating, promoting, donating) from time to time.
  • Be committed to the ACNC Governance Standards and the AICD’s Not-for-profit Governance Principles

 

Term

  • Three years, renewable for a further term to a maximum of nine years
