Ormond College is the largest residential College at the University of Melbourne and host to the Wade Institute of Entrepreneurship. Home to around 370 undergraduates, 50 graduate resident students and 80 non-resident students, Ormond College is committed to providing an outstanding residential and learning experience through its core values of respect, community, learning, integrity, diversity, and heritage. 

Our community of more than 10,000 Ormondians includes a Nobel Prize winner, an Australian Prime Minister, more than 70 Rhodes and Fulbright Scholars, justices of the High Court, Cabinet ministers, leading medical researchers, Vice-Chancellors, captains of business, entrepreneurs, Olympians, and award-winning artists, writers and performers. The College has a strong culture of philanthropy and thanks to the support of our donors, offers a generous scholarship program of $1.3m per annum and has been successful of developing new campus facilities including a $7.3m Academic Centre in 2011 and $10m Wade Institute of Entrepreneurship in 2015. 

About the role

We are seeking to recruit an Advancement & Community Engagement Manager at an exciting time for Ormond College, its students and alumni community. The ideal candidate will have a natural ability to identify, cultivate and steward strategic relationships internally and externally as well as managing a portfolio of donors and supporters in support of the College and the Wade Institute. With a natural ability to foster and establish long lasting relationships you are passionate about the transformative power of higher education and the critically important role it plays in Australian society.

  • Fundraising: Plan and implement the Annual Giving Campaign, develop bespoke funding opportunities, identify new potential funding streams, and contribute to the development of a transformational Fundraising Campaign.
  • Donor Stewardship: Provide innovative ideas to support donor stewardship and recognition strategies through events, tailored communications, and other means.
  • Alumni & Community Relations: Develop and deliver a comprehensive Community Engagement Program, work collaboratively with the Ormond College Association (OCA) and deliver a broad range of annual events including alumni reunions, parents’ events and family days as well as identifying new ways to engage the College community.
  • Mentoring: Manage the delivery of the College’s alumni mentoring program, an essential element of Ormond’s Community Engagement Strategy.
  • Research & Database Management: Provide insights into donor and community activity, assist in developing and managing donor profiles and demonstrate a proven ability to work with data and deal with personal details confidentially. 
  • Collaboration: Ormond College is a small vibrant community an ability to work collaboratively within the College is essential as is the capacity to cultivate strong working relationships externally.

About You

  • Proven experience in Fundraising with a strong track record in soliciting gifts at a significant level.
  • Strong strategic thinking capabilities with the capacity to manage multiple projects and balance competing deadlines.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to effectively and appropriately engage with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience with database management and the understanding of its importance to effective engagement and cultivation as well as the ability to generate data relevant to projects and tasks efficiently.
  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to operate efficiently in a complex and fast paced environment.
