The National Heart Foundation (NHF) is the trusted peak body working to improve heart disease prevention, detection and patient care by funding high impact research, advocating to governments, supporting health professionals and building community awareness of a heart healthy lifestyle.

This role is one of six National leadership roles in the Heart Foundation’s National Executive Group, reporting to the CEO.  The revenue team has broad responsibility for all philanthropic, sponsorship and commercial revenue channels, and identifies opportunities to maximise and diversify revenue growth to support the NHF to deliver on its mission.

You are an engaging, collaborative, values driven leader in the for-purpose arena who inspires trust.  Experience in contemporary fundraising within the NFP sector is essential. Exposure to corporate sector partnership management will be highly regarded.

Position Profile

The purpose of this role is to leverage all current fundraising channels and identify new opportunities to maximise and ensure sustainable revenue growth that will enable the National Heart Foundation to continue to deliver on its mission to reduce heart disease and improve the heart health and quality of life for all Australians.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the role will be responsible for overseeing all revenue driving activity, growing diverse income streams, appropriate commercial opportunities, and growth of a sustainable network of Heart Foundation supporters. The function includes individual donor development, community fundraising, major gifts and philanthropy, gifts in wills, and corporate partnerships, within its remit, along with other relevant programs approved by the CEO and Executive leadership Group.

Working with the CEO and Executive Leadership Group, your commercial acumen and business development skills will enable you to develop and implement new and innovative strategies that will ensure sustainable revenue growth.

Key accountabilities

Key areas of accountability to ensure our success:

  1. Act in accordance with the Heart Foundation’s values and consistently demonstrate the agreed organisational behaviours including a commitment to community and volunteer engagement and diversity and inclusion principles.
  2. Lead the development, implementation, and evidence-based evaluation of key commercial strategies to maximise net income and drive multi-channel growth.
  3. Oversee the integrated development of the Heart Foundation’s relationship revenue programs including major gifts and philanthropy, gift in wills, and corporate partnerships to establish strong and sustainable revenue streams.
  4. Ensure the national team delivers on key strategies, meets annual income targets, and have a growth mindset. You will also monitor and report on lead and lag indicators to understand and manage growth and ROI.
  5. Manage the overall national Revenue budget including vendor relationships to minimise the cost of fundraising and maximise return on investment. 6. Ensure effective and ethical stakeholder management, with all fundraising and commercial partners, and ensure we have and nurture a donor centric culture.
  6. Manage risk and ensure that activities are planned and implemented to mitigate risk to the values, reputation, and success of the Foundation. 8. Ensure all commercial initiatives are supported by a business plan approved by the CEO with regular monitoring and reporting to the CEO and relevant committees.
  7. Work closely with other functions, including within Business Service, Health Research & Innovation and Public & Local Affairs, to maximise the efficient and effective delivery of Revenue services and activities. Ensure consistency with Health Research & Innovation programs of the Foundation. Monitor local revenue activities and ensure effective communication and integration with national programs.
  8. Undertake other duties or responsibilities, as directed, within the scope of this role and consistent with skills, qualifications and experience as may be required from time to time.

Position requirements Qualifications, skills, knowledge and experience

  • Tertiary qualifications and demonstrated equivalent experience in a relevant business discipline.
  • Strong fundraising background with a high level of commercial acumen including the ability to interpret financial reports to formulate revenue strategies that maximise financial returns.
  • Commercial end-to-end business development experience including development of new initiatives, programs, and partnerships.
  • Excellent negotiating and vendor management skills and experience.
  • Demonstrated success in the development, implementation, and evaluation of an integrated multi-channel fundraising or business development strategy.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills are critical, along with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidiscipline team, including specialist subject matter experts, with the ability to mentor or coach and develop team members.
  • Experience in fundraising desirable.
  • Ability to understand and ensure compliance with national, state/territory fundraising legislation and regulation.
