Come and farewell 2020 with us in a special event – a real and raw conversation with sector leaders about the year that no-one expected. Created in partnership with our friends at The Xfactor Collective.
Their CEO and founder Julia Keady will host a panel discussion with three sector CEOs – Patrick Walker, Bernadette Black and Matt Pfahlert – who will share their unique stories, their trials and triumphs, and the ways the sector has continued to rally around the human spirit.
We’ll get into leadership ups and downs, what we’ve collectively learned and observed as a sector, and after all the talk of “pivoting” and “transformation” we’ll have an honest look at the things none of us want to take forward, and what we are keeping into 2021.
It will be real, it will be raw – maybe some tears, definitely some laughs – a great opportunity for a virtual send-off. Farewell 2020, hello 2021!
We’ll discuss topics such as:
- The unique challenges some of our sector leaders faced this year, and how they tackled them
- What was the single hardest moment for each leader this year – what nearly broke them?
- What we’ve learned about ourselves, our teams, and the sector
- What the sector needs to leave behind in 2020 and NOT take with us
We’ll inspire you with:
- The learnings and growth that can come out of a year like this one and the ideas that we’re taking with us
- Tales of setbacks that were turned into opportunities
- How innovative and resilient the sector can be under pressure
Who should attend this webinar?
- Anyone who wants to pause and reflect for an hour on their own year, while listening into the experience of others
- Those who want to virtually connect for an hour of inspiration, tears and laughter
- Leaders who want to hear about the transformation journey that other organisation leaders have endured because of and during 2020
We’re offering a special discounted price of $20 per ticket (over 65% off!). We hope you can join us for this special end of year event!
15% of all ticketing income will go towards providing free support and advice to social changemakers in 2021 through The Xfactor Collective Foundation – the new charity arm of the Collective.

On the panel:
Patrick Walker
CEO, Australian Sports Foundation
Community sports participation rates are falling and Australia is now one of the least active – and obese – nations in the world. This impacts both our physical and mental health, and weakens social cohesion. Patrick is on a mission to get more Australians more active through community sport.
Bernadette Black
GAICD, Founding CEO, Brave Foundation
Bernadette’s passion is creating lived experience/early intervention strategy and policy for at risk youth. Her story, extensive awards, including Australian Tasmanian of the Year, Top 100 AFR Women of Influence and professional background testify to this, creating lasting systemic shift, impact, and recognition through her ground-breaking work with the Commonwealth
Matt Pfahlert
Co-founder/CEO, ACRE (Australian Centre for Rural Entrepreneurship)
One of Australia’s pioneering social entrepreneurs, Matt Pfahlert is helping to shape regional and rural Australia through igniting entrepreneurship in young people and their communities. Matt started his first social enterprise in 1993 at the age of 23, working with ‘at risk’ young people, which saw him receive the prestigious Young Australian of the Year Award in 1996. Motivated by a desire to create prosperous, healthy, thriving communities, in 2016 as co-founder and CEO of the Australian Centre for Rural Entrepreneurship (ACRE), Matt led a $2.5M community buy-back of the Old Beechworth Gaol.
