About Us
Since its foundation in 1937, globally, Toyota has strived continuously to contribute to the sustainable development of society and the planet through its business operations.
It’s a principle that we have continued since Toyota Australia started in 1963 and has helped to cement our position as Australia’s leading automotive company.
Motor vehicles greatly expand the freedom of mobility, however, we recognise that they can also have an effect on our society and the environment. With this in mind, we listen carefully to our stakeholders as we pursue a business that works towards harmony with people, society, and the global environment.
We are continuously innovating to develop vehicles that meet the needs of the market both now and into the future.
Our research focuses on vehicles powered by a range of alternative fuels and vehicles with the potential for automated driving.
Meanwhile we continue to work towards vehicles that are safe for everyone, and that maintain the standards of durability and reliability that people expect from the Toyota brand.
The Toyota business is guided by seven principles:
- Honour the language and spirit of the law of every nation and undertake open and fair corporate activities to be a good corporate citizen of the world
- Respect the culture and customs of every nation and contribute to economic and social development through corporate activities in the communities
- Dedicate ourselves to providing clean and safe products and to enhancing the quality of life everywhere through all our activities
- Create and develop advanced technologies and provide outstanding products and services that fulfil the needs of customers worldwide
- Foster a corporate culture that enhances individual creativity and teamwork value, while honouring mutual trust and respect between labour and management
- Pursue growth in harmony with the global community through innovative management
- Work with business partners in research and creation to achieve stable long-term growth and mutual benefits, while keeping ourselves open to new partnerships

Employee Giving
Our roots were established in 2000, when we began exploring how to engage more meaningfully with the community. After consultation with key stakeholders, the Toyota Community Spirit program was established in 2001.
Our program focused on national and local strategic partnerships with community organisations. We worked with the three local councils where we operated: Hobsons Bay (VIC), Port Phillip (VIC) and Sutherland Shire (NSW).
In 2009, we looked at how we could improve our programs and encourage greater employee engagement. The Toyota Community Foundation (TCF), as it stands today, was formed in 2011.
Local Community
We believe in providing grassroots practical support to local communities where we operate.
We provide annual equipment grants to each of the local areas where we have significant operations – Port Melbourne and Altona. These grants have supported hundreds of local community groups purchase equipment like life jackets, gardening tools, and sports equipment.
Staff Volunteering
We are passionate about supporting our employees’ interests and passions, as much as their careers and development. We have matched workplace giving program for our employees to donate directly to causes that are close to their hearts. We also provide our employees with the opportunity to win grants for non-profit community groups they actively support.
We continue to evolve our programs to meet the needs of the community, as well as the interests of our company and employees. As our business has changed, we have invested in long term projects to give back to the communities that have been our home for so many years. You can find out more about our work on http://www.toyota.com.au/toyota-community-foundation

Partnerships
Partnerships
Our long term partnerships help us create lasting change in communities around Australia.
We have been working with Road Safety Education (RSE) since 2010, reaching over 500,000 students aged 17-18 through the largest road safety awareness program for young people in Australia.
2017/2018 Legacy
With the end of our manufacturing at Altona in 2017, and the consolidation of our offices to Melbourne, we wanted to leave a lasting legacy to the local communities we have called home for many years.
Lower Kororoit Creek, running beside the Altona plant, has been a focus for us for many years. Together with Friends of Lower Kororoit Creek and Hobsons Bay City Council, our employees and their families have helped plant more than 40,000 trees and shrubs in the area.
That’s why we chose to fund the design and construction of approximately two kilometres of a new pedestrian and cycle path along the creek, as well as way finding signage and site-specific public art. Officially opened in July 2017, stages 1,2 and 3 of the path is called ‘Toyota Way’ and is dedicated to the many Toyota employees who have worked at Altona.
With our Sales and Marketing office leaving the Sutherland Shire, we have partnered with Schools Plus to provide school grants and scholarships for disadvantaged schools and students in the Sutherland Shire. Five Sutherland Shire schools are receiving funding support from Toyota over the next four years for priority projects. The scholarship program is offering financial scholarships for young people in Years 10 and 11 in the Sutherland Shire.
2017 saw the establishment of the Toyota Community Trust, as an ongoing legacy of our manufacturing presence in Australia. With the closure of our manufacturing operations that same year, we wanted to leave something that would provide long term benefits to the Australian community. With its first grants, the Toyota Community Trust is aiming to encourage and enable more young Australians to pursue further study and future careers in STEM.
