The Australian Institute of Company Directors’ (AICD) NFP Governance and Performance Study is an important initiative that helps to identify and explore the current challenges and opportunities facing the sector.
A strong and sustainable Not for Profit sector is critical to the Australian economy and community, and the AICD is calling on all non-executive directors or senior executives of Not for Profits to take part in the 2016 study.
In recent years, the sector has faced a period of significant change. The introduction of a new regulatory regime, changes in government funding and different business models continue to be front of mind for the sector’s leaders.
“This is the seventh year we have undertaken this study and the critical information that we gather from it has influenced important decisions by NFPs themselves, as well as key policy-makers in the sector,” AICD Not for Profit sector leader Phil Butler said.
“The study examines key issues facing the sector, including financial sustainability, the frequency of mergers and the way in which the sector collaborates with government. It also documents the time that directors of NFP boards commit to their roles and whether they are paid for their services.
“The end result gives a unique insight into the challenges and the opportunities facing the NFP sector. It examines the key role of good governance driving performance and it also highlights the difficult operating environment that they must navigate on behalf of their stakeholders.”
This year, the study will delve more deeply into financial sustainability, which remains a top priority for NFP organisations, and also issues affecting the health sector.
The AICD is calling on all non-executive directors and senior executives of NFPs to complete the survey.
“We are seeking responses from a broad cross-section of views that will paint an accurate picture of Australia’s NFP landscape,” Butler said.
