Social enterprises and Not for Profits can apply for $50,000 grants in a new program aiming to foster innovative digital ideas that address the challenges faced by vulnerable young Australians.
Optus has launched the Future Makers program to accelerate digital technology that has the ability to change the social landscape.
Associate Director, Corporate Social Responsibility at Optus, Helen Maisano, said investing in digital innovation that will contribute to a better future for Australia was a key focus of the organisation.
“As the technological landscape continues to shift and evolve, it’s essential that we provide support to those working hard to make a real difference in this area,” Maisano said.
“Optus’ Future Makers program is a significant step towards enabling Australia’s innovative minds to make a positive social impact through the use of technology solutions. We’re mainly looking for game-changers with ideas and systems that are almost ready to go.”
Following the application process, 12 shortlisted individuals or organisations will take part in an accelerator program, which includes access to industry mentors and networking opportunities to help candidates develop their ideas before pitching to a panel of experts.
Six winners will then receive up to $50,000 each in funding to use within six months to kickstart their idea.
Along with the focus on technology, the ideas must address one of four areas identified as areas where young people require additional support – employability, education, cyber safety or wellbeing.
Applications are open until 28 March find out more about the selection criteria here.
