Investigating Technology for NFPs

The Not for Profit sector is being urged to take part in a major study being funded by the Federal Government into technology and platforms for giving and volunteering.
The Prime Minister’s Community Business Partnership is looking at the digital future for giving and volunteering through an extensive national study being undertaken by the Australian Centre for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies (ACPNS) at Queensland University of Technology.
“It is hoped that this research will inform policy and highlight ways that charities can benefit more from technology and IT capacity building,” lead researcher Dr Wendy Scaife said.
“The project’s aim is to better understand the technology and platforms currently available for giving on non-cash items, volunteer hours and cash donations and their use in Australia.
“It will provide an analysis of the existing and emerging technology and platforms for giving and volunteering in Australia and overseas, exploring ways to harness the technology and platforms to increase giving, how to enhance giving as well as how to enhance the uptake of the technologies and the current barriers to their adoption.
“Technology is both a stumbling block and an opportunity for the Not for Profit sector but very many organisations are struggling with what to do with it.
“Their future very much depends on which direction they take.”
