Charity Auction for Coveted Condiment Goes Viral

How much would you pay to have your own supply of McDonald’s special Big Mac sauce?
Before you answer, consider if the money was going to charity.
Well apparently there are quite a few people who would happily pay more than $23,000 for it.
That is how much a limited edition bottle of Big Mac sauce is currently selling for on online auctioning site eBay.
McDonald’s Australia is selling the only bottle currently available in the world with the profits going to its charity, the Ronald McDonald House.
In just a few days the coveted condiment has been bid on by 135 people and at last check was going for $23,100.
Being sold by Bid For Good, an agency that manages auctions for charities in Australia, and according to the eBay listing, the bottle is the first of only 200 that will be made.
“For too long Big Mac Special Sauce has been trapped in a beautiful, delicious burger – now we’ve set it free,” the listing says.
“This bottle is #1 of only 200 being produced worldwide, and they won’t be sold in restaurants. That makes it rarer than a spot on Bondi beach on New Years Day.
“With 500ml to play with, you’ll have enough to impress your friends at dinner parties, cheat your way to cooking show fame, and get elected as Prime Minister.”
The listing claims that the sauce will make anything taste better, including leftovers, lasagne, steak or even cupcakes and ice cream.
Clever marketing, but they are bidding on their own goods. It's a sad (brave) new world when 23k in charity bidding is so unusual to be worth so much more than 23k in direct marketing..
