A senior corporate executive is to head one of Victoria’s largest fundraising appeals – the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
The Board of the Good Friday Appeal has appointed Anne Randall to the role of Director.
Randall will be joining the Not for Profit sector from Melbourne Water Corporation where she has been the General Manager, Customer and Community for the past six years.
Prior to that, Randall was Deputy CEO of Metlink Victoria where she worked with both transport operators and the Government to grow patronage and revenue.
Randall was also Head of Communications for Sydney 2000, she was part of a team that managed all Olympic public communications.
Penny Fowler, grand-daughter of Sir Keith Murdoch and chairman of the Good Friday Appeal board, said Randall’s vast experience building and developing strong teams would be an asset to the Appeal which relies on its key stakeholder relationships to deliver record fundraising totals like this year’s $16.8million.
“Anne brings a great deal of experience and enthusiasm to this high-profile role,” Fowler said.
“Randall will oversee a small team and an army of volunteers at the helm of the iconic Good Friday Appeal – building on the Appeal’s 83-year legacy.”
"I am excited and honoured to be joining the wonderful community that supports the outstanding work of the Royal Children's Hospital,” Anne Randall said.
Randall will take up the role at the end of August. She replaces Appeal Director Deborah Hallmark who took up the position in June 2012.
Since 1931 the Good Friday Appeal has contributed more than $274 million to the Royal Children's Hospital. In 2014 the Appeal reached another record breaking amount of $16,405,534.65.
The Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal is now a public company first founded by the Herald & Weekly Times in 1931.
The Good Friday Appeal started when a group of sportsmen and journalists from The Herald & Weekly Times Pty Ltd (HWT) publication "The Sporting Globe" organised a sporting carnival in aid of charity and nominated the Royal Children's Hospital as a beneficiary.
In 1942, the Managing Director of HWT agreed that The Herald and radio station 3DB should promote an annual appeal on Good Friday. In 1957, Channel 7 joined The Good Friday Appeal and began the first day-long telethon.
Channel 7 Melbourne and HWT have remained major supporters of The Good Friday Appeal and in recent years 3AW 693 and Magic 1278 became official radio supporters.
