Leadership Scholarships for SA Community Leaders

A number of community leadership scholarships are now available as part of the South Australian Governor’s Leadership Foundation (GLF) program for 2015.
The 2015 leadeship development scholarships are available for a community sector leader, aboriginal leaders, a leader with a disability or a leader working in an organisation that provides support to those with a disability.
CEO of the Leaders Institute of South Australia Niki Vincent said more companies needed to invest in up-skilling managers and that development initiatives like the Governor’s Leadership Foundation (GLF) program could directly increase leadership capacity and ultimately influence South Australia’s productivity figures.
“Building better leadership skills and encouraging high performers is the key to success in our economy and yet most companies spend very little on training and ‘entrepreneurial’ learning opportunities like collaboration, holistic problem solving and fostering creativity,” Vincent said.
The Institute says the 10-month program, now in its 15th year, aims to develop 21st century leadership skills including strategic foresight capacity and the ability to tackle more complex problems.
So far almost 500 senior managers have completed the initiative.
“Today’s managers need the skills to deal with a rapidly changing and complex international environment where executives must have a high level of self-awareness, flexibility and a tolerance for ambiguity,” Vincent said.
“Organisations need to build these skills, as well as the capacity for greater collaboration and innovative thinking, if they are to compete in the global economy.
“We know from our work with more than a thousand high-level executives that this approach works. Technical expertise just isn’t enough anymore, we have to think about developing the capacity to address multi-layered, ambiguous challenges.”
Vincent said the GLF leadership program covered a range of economic, environmental, social and cultural issues. Participants work on their own case-studies and an action learning project and are then encouraged to use their improved knowledge and skills to create positive outcomes for their organisations and the wider South Australian community.
There are 40 positions available for the GLF program for 2015. Applications are now invited from candidates who have demonstrated leadership capacity and experience. Applications will close on Monday, 8 September.
