Corporate Social Responsibility Laboratory (C-Lab) Forum
4 June 2014 at 9:41 am
The Corporate Social Responsibility in the Laboratory or C-Lab event is about to shine a light on the future of sustainable business as part of ACCSR’s 10th anniversary celebrations.
In 2014, the Australian Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility celebrates its 10th Anniversary. Ten years on, corporate social responsibility (CSR) in Australia has evolved from a discretionary activity undertaken by a select few to an accepted strategic management approach adopted by leading organisations.
But what does the future hold for the next decade of responsible business practice in Australia?
It seems apt to ask this question having reached our own 10 year milestone, so to kick off our anniversary celebrations, ACCSR and the International Association for Business and Society (IABS) will come together to host the Corporate Social Responsibility Laboratory (C-Lab).
The C-Lab will be held on Monday, 23rd June 2014 in Sydney. This one-off event is directly after the IABS annual conference which is being held in Australia for the very first time.
The C-Lab will capitalise on global CSR thought leaders who are in the region attending the IABS conference, who have expertise in the full range of CSR and management specialties, including sustainable business, human rights, governance, accountability, management strategy and stakeholder relations.
We are delighted that Professor R. Edward Freeman from the Darden School at the University of Virginia will deliver the keynote address. As the author of the ground-breaking 1984 book, “Strategic Management: A Stakeholder Approach,” Professor Freeman is universally acknowledged as one of the forefathers of stakeholder theory.
Other global thought leaders include Professors Sandra Waddock, Andy Crane, Duane Windsor, Gordon Rands, Brad Agle and more.
Leading Australian businesses presenting at the C-Lab include National Australia Bank, Allens, MMG, Intrepid Travel, GlencoreXstrata, the GPT Group, Fuji Xerox and LendLease.

This special one-day dialogue for scholars and practitioners will consider the following key questions:
-
What progress have we really made in the last decade to encourage more responsible business practices?
-
What are the big new ideas that will transform business in society in the next decade?
-
How can business work more effectively with universities to answer the important questions and improve the impact and role of business in society?
The C-Lab will be an interactive forum featuring key note addresses and plenary sessions. It will be punctuated by a series of round tables convened on topics that are jointly facilitated by a leading scholar and a business person.
Topics include ethical consumerism, stakeholder engagement, reporting and disclosure, human rights, social entrepreneurship and creating shared value. This format will promote better engagement between scholars and practitioners, between theory and action, and ensure diverse perspectives are brought to consider each topic.
