Grants Open for Heritage Preservation

The National Library of Australia’s 2014 Community Heritage Grants of up to $15,000 are now open for applications.
The grants are open to community groups across Australia that help preserve and manage locally held, nationally significant cultural heritage collections of documents and objects for future generations.
Projects supported include significance assessments, preservation needs assessments, conservation activities and collection management.
Since 1994, a combined total of about $4.9 million in funding has been provided to 1044 projects.
Director-General of the National Library, Anne-Marie Schwirtlich, encouraged representatives from historical societies, museums, public libraries, archives and Indigenous and migrant community groups to apply, particularly those from remote areas of Australia.
“To the many groups around the country which are playing their part to help preserve Australia’s history, we invite you to apply for the 2014 grants so the nation can continue to benefit from your culturally significant work,” Schwirtlich said.
“While we welcome applications from all over the country, we particularly encourage groups in remote and regional Australia to apply.”
Applications can be submitted online at www.nla.gov.au/chg and close on Friday, May 2 at 5pm (AEST).
The 2014 Community Heritage Grants Program is funded by the Australian Government through the National Library of Australia; the Ministry for the Arts, Attorney-General’s Department; the National Archives of Australia; the National Film and Sound Archive; and the National Museum of Australia.
