Fee-free Community Sector Training For Young People

Fee-free apprenticeships and traineeships for Queensland high school graduates going into areas including disability, aged care, home and community care, and children’s services are now available.

The Queensland Government initiative is for Year 12 students who graduated in 2013.

The fee-free training, available in more than 10 industries, will apply to high priority qualifications available under the Queensland Government's Certificate 3 Guarantee program or User Choice program.

Education, Training and Employment Minister John-Paul Langbroek said the qualifications in high demand areas were chosen by the Government and industry.

He said the commitment to fee-free training in priority areas was made in the Great Skills. Real Opportunities VET reform action plan released in June 2013.

“Fee-free training will give recent Year 12 graduates the opportunity to complete a high priority qualification without the financial burden of student contribution fees,” Langbroek said.

Langbroek said these 11 fee-free qualifications would be available if students commence their training in the calendar year after completing Year 12.

To be eligible for the fee-free training, applicants must:

• have completed Year 12 in Queensland and hold a Senior Statement issued by the Queensland Studies Authority;

• enrol and start training with an approved training provider by the end of the calendar year following the completion of Year 12;

• be a Queensland resident.
