Final Voting for Eftpos $2mill Giveback Campaign

More than 51,000 Australians have already voted in an online poll which will help eftpos decide where to donate up to $2 million to charity in its annual Giveback campaign this Christmas.
With three days to go before the poll closes at 11.59pm on Saturday (12 October), eftpos is reminding Australians to help choose which worthy causes should receive a share of this year’s Giveback donation.
eftpos Managing Director, Mr Bruce Mansfield, said there had been a great community response since polling started on 30 September, with early voting showing strong support for programs involved in disease prevention, management and medical research.
“It is great to see the community showing support for these great charities and causes,” Mr Mansfield said. “We have already spoken to a number of charities about where the Giveback donation would be best spent, but the community’s opinion will also be one of the key considerations in making our decision.”
More than 140 charities have submitted proposals for this year’s eftpos Giveback campaign, with many using social media to build community support. For the purposes of the poll, the charity proposals have been divided into eight broad “cause” areas which voters can choose from.

The eight voting categories are:
- Sick kids and their families
- Disease prevention, management and medical research
- Mental health, depression and suicide
- People with disabilities
- Disadvantaged kids, families and communities
- Homeless people and poverty
- Environment, flora and fauna
- Animal and pet welfare
Last year’s Giveback poll showed overwhelming support for eftpos to direct the 2012 Giveback donation towards a charity that assisted people with disabilities. Of the more than 40,000 Australians who voted in the poll, 30% indicated their support for a charity that assisted people with disabilities.
In 2012, eftpos donated $1 million to Vision Australia to help fulfil the organisation’s long time ambition to build a new Seeing Eye Dog breeding and training centre in Melbourne. In 2011, $1 million was donated to The Salvos for a number of community programs.
This year, eftpos Giveback will run in the lead up to Christmas, during which time Australians will be asked to help eftpos donate up to $2 million to two Australian charities by pressing CHQ or SAV at the checkout.
