Record Charity Applications for eftpos $2 Million Campaign

Electronic funds transfer system company, eftpos Australia has confirmed it has had a record number of Not for Profit applications for its $2 million dollar donation to charity as part of its 2013 GiveBack campaign.
And it’s likely that more than one charity will share in the donation windfall.
“More than 140 charities have submitted proposals for this year’s campaign – three times as many as last year,” according to eftpos Managing Director Bruce Mansfield.
“We can also confirm there will be a public poll launching next week until 12 October asking Australians what area they believe the funds should support. Last year Australians overwhelmingly chose charities supporting people with disabilities,” Mansfield said.
“There are new categories this year including environment and animal welfare.
“We will be communicating with all of those charities that have made submissions this week to let them know which causes and categories their proposals relate to in an effort avoid any possible confusion.
“There will be a free text box this year, so people can also nominate which individual charity they support as well.
“It is very likely we will support more than one charity this year. In many cases, the quality of the proposals is extraordinary and will make it a very tough call.”
It’s understood that during last year’s campaign the $1 million winner, Vision Australia saw a “significant uplift” in donations.
I would really love to see this money go to a charity that provides affordable; safe; stable housing to single parents and children and especially those that are the victims of sexual and violent crime. There is a growing need for adequate affordable housing for single parents with children; and victims of crime; without adequate housing there is no real way for us to climb out of poverty and create stable lives for ourselves and our children. Faced with sexual abuse; women and children need safe; long term; affordable housing to have any chance of surviving the aftereffects of abuse and helping their children become healed and whole and healthy again. If they fall into homelessness as a result of violent and sexual crime; women and children are both being punished all over again for being the VICTIM OF CRIME. This is unfair and unjust. Meanwhile the perpetrators are often housed and helped back into society. It must change.
