ACNC Awards for Young NFP Researchers

Australia’s charity regulator, the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC), in partnership with Australia New Zealand Third Sector Researchers (ANZTSR), is offering two awards for early career researchers in third sector studies.

The awards are open to anyone in the first five years of a research career based in an Australian University or Not for Profit organisation.
From June 20,  2013, the ACNC and ANZTSR are calling for submissions for the ACNC-ANZTSR Research Project and an NFP Sector Research Paper Award.

The regulator says both opportunities will directly contribute to the Australian Not for Profit sector by offering practical ways the ACNC can achieve the objects of the ACNC Act.

This includes, but is not limited to:

• practical ways to maintain and enhance public trust and confidence in the sector
• how the ACNC can work to support and sustain a robust sector, and
• what the ACNC could do to reduce red tape for charities.

The ACNC-ANZTSR Research Project will give an early career researcher an opportunity to undertake a project with the support of the ACNC to further one of the objects of the ACNC Act.

The winner will be given access to ACNC resources and expertise in order to undertake this research as appropriate. 

The ACNC says during the term of the project, the winner will spend a period- to be negotiated- in the ACNC’s office in Melbourne in order to meet with staff and gain a better understanding of the ACNC’s work.

The winner will receive:

• Up to $1,500 to be used toward the project (including travel to Melbourne if required),
• Support and guidance from the ACNC research team in completing the project,
• A 1-year membership to ANZTSR, and;
• Will have their work published in Third Sector Review and on the ACNC website. 

Applications for the ACNC Research Project close August 16, 2013, with the winner announced in September 2013.

The NFP Sector Research Paper Award will recognise a paper, approximately 5,000 words in length, that presents a piece of original research and which may be drawn from the applicant’s thesis.

The winner will receive:

• A $150 book voucher,
• One-year membership to ANZTSR and;
• Publication in Third Sector Review and on the ACNC website.
