Bill Gates Speaks to Australia

Microsoft founder and co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, will speak at University of New South Wales today as part in a special ABC TV Q&A program moderated by Tony Jones.

Microsoft founder and co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, will speak at University of New South Wales today as part in a special ABC TV Q&A program moderated by Tony Jones.

Gates will be discussing investment in global health and development. The audience for this invitation-only event, to be held in the University’s Clancy Auditorium, will comprise of members of the UNSW community.

“We are proud that many UNSW researchers and academics are making a contribution in this important area,” Gonski said.UNSW Chancellor David Gonski said it was a terrific opportunity for graduates, students, staff and friends of the University to hear from Bill Gates, “a true global leader and champion for the betterment of society by tackling global health issues.”

“UNSW’s Kirby Institute for infection and immunity in society is leading an international research project funded by the Gates Foundation (US$12.5 million) that has the potential to extend antiretroviral therapy to millions of HIV-affected people worldwide.

“The Gates Foundation also supports the Pacific Friends of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, which operates under the auspices of the UNSW Foundation."

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation was set up to help all people lead healthy, productive lives. Based in Seattle, Washington, the foundation is led by CEO Jeff Raikes and Co-chair William H. Gates Sr., under the direction of Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett.

The special edition of ABC TV Q&A will broadcast tonight at 8.30pm.
