Sarah Murdoch Joins NFP Board

Philanthropist and high profile model Sarah Murdoch has been appointed to the board of the Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth (ARACY).
Chief executive of ARACY Dr Lance Emerson said Murdoch’s commitment to the wellbeing of children and youth, her positive public profile and experience working with other non-government agencies will strengthen the capacity of ARACY to progress evidence-based strategies to enhance the wellbeing of young Australians.
Murdoch said that the opportunity to be engaged with ARACY’s prevention-focused
collaborative projects and working with ARACY’s 2300 members to help improve child and
youth wellbeing was the determining factor in her accepting this role.
“We all know our young people face complex issues relating to their wellbeing. For me,
ARACY’s holistic approach, focusing on evidence-based prevention strategies and programs,
makes sense on a practical, economic and personal level,” Murdoch said.
“There are many areas of child well being where Australia is doing well, however it is
disheartening to see Australia is not keeping pace with international trends in areas like
primary school education, childhood obesity and child abuse and neglect.
“Children should be our nation’s number one priority. Our first concern is to improve child
well being for the children themselves, but it is also essential if Australia is to remain
productive and internationally competitive,” she said.
ARACY board chair Elaine Henry OAM said they are delighted to welcome Sarah Murdoch to the ARACY board.
“With ARACY’s recent growth and positive outcomes over the past 10 years, Sarah will be working with my fellow board members to help lead the organisation through its next phase of development,” she said.
Murdoch’s objectives as board director will be to influence policy and decisions with the aim
of creating best practice for the wellbeing of children and youth.
Sarah Murdoch is currently a director for The Australian Ballet, ambassador for the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute and the patron of the National Breast Cancer Foundation. She is also chair of the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s Women’s Advisory Network.
In 1999, she married Lachlan Murdoch, son of Australian media mogul Rupert Murdoch. The couple live in Sydney,and have two sons, Kalan and Aidan, and a daughter, Aerin.
