Celebrating Six Million Aussie Volunteers

The 2013 theme for National Volunteer Week – 'Thanks A Million' – is set to recognise and thank Australia’s six million volunteers, according to organisers.
Volunteering Victoria, together with Volunteering Australia, says it recognises the valuable contribution each of Australia’s six million formally recorded volunteers (36% of the population) make to their communities when they offer their time, skills and passion to support hundreds of thousands of Not for Profit organisations across the nation.
From May 13 – 19, Australians will be invited to recognise and thank the nation’s volunteers.
“Events to celebrate volunteering and Awards to recognise volunteers will be presented across the nation,” Volunteering Victoria’s chief executive Sue Noble said.
Volunteering Victoria is encouraging people to participate online (@VolunteeringVic or facebook.com/VolunteeringVic) and posting thank yous, or through local events being organised by local volunteering organisations.
A range of campaign support materials are now available to volunteering organisations to help them participate and promote the intention of the week (via www.volunteeringvictoria.org.au/resources/nvw-2013/).
