A database site of Not for Profits in Australia, Givewell Research Centre, has announced that they will be going offline and not taking or renewing subscriptions to their services.

Givewell released a statement explaining the reason for the database closing down its site after 13 years.

“The main reason for this is that the financial data has not been updated for some time. In light of this we have not be renewing subscriptions for the last 12 months,” the company said in a statement.

“Further, we anticipate that the sort of data that Givewell provides will ultimately become available through the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission.”

Givewell’s executive director Michael Walsh will commence a new appointment as UCA Funds management executive director and chief executive officer at Ethical investor UCA Funds Management.

Walsh said that he was “attracted to the position by the vibrancy, professionalism and enviable long-term track record of the UCA Funds organisation as well as the opportunity to lead a Not for Profit investment group that is well established as a socially responsible fund manager with the potential for further development”.

He has over 30 years’ funds and risk management experience, including 12 in the ethical funds sector, and he has served as a non-executive director, senior executive and adviser to several companies active in the Australian financial services industry.

“We are extremely pleased to have been able to attract someone with such an extensive background in the funds management sector and so specifically experienced in ethical funds,” UCA Funds Management chairperson Dick Carter said.

“Michael’s leadership will be important in continuing UCA Funds Management’s development to the next level.”

Walsh takes over from acting executive director Sue Norman in February.

UCA Funds Management is the investment arm of the Uniting Church Synod of Victoria and Tasmania.

"Although the database is coming offline, the Givewell Forums will continue across Australia and are now managed by 3Pillars Network," Walsh said.

"This year we will be hosting the forums once again in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne in May, and Adelaide in Perth during October.  The theme for the 2013 events is Collective Impact – exploring how organisations can collaborate effectively around a cause to achieve maximum impact."
