NFP Executive Scholarship Announced

A new scholarship worth $13,000 to support the career of an executive working in the Not for Profit sector has been launched.
The McCarthy Mentoring Not For Profit Executive Scholarship, funded by Sydney-based mentoring consultancy McCarthy Mentoring, is a 12-month scholarship aimed at assisting a leader within the sector to progress their career, strengthen their leadership skills and increase the impact of their positive work in society.
McCarthy Mentoring says it is responding to an increased demand from executives working in health, education, employment and refugee settlement services.
“We’ve had an increase in requests for support at the executive level across all areas of NFP, particularly in relation to working with boards more effectively,” McCarthy Mentoring executive director Sophie McCarthy said.
“Specifically, the executives are asking how to work more effectively with their boards, build better relationships, increase engagement from both sides to successfully drive their strategy and vision for the organisation.
McCarthy said that directors see the value in offering their executives an external, independent sounding board and advisor to help them build their confidence and increase their knowledge of the board’s role.
“For many new executives working to a board is a new, and sometimes challenging, experience. Working with a Not for Profit board of volunteers can be an even greater challenge,” McCarthy said.
“Mentoring helps people find, trust and use their voice and I hope this scholarship can further develop a leading Australian to continue their work and make a difference to our country.”
Applications for the McCarthy Mentoring Not for Profit Executive Scholarship close on January 31, 2013.
