Rachel Lamb is a marketing officer at Diabetes WA. This week we profile Rachel in Changemakers – a regular column which examines inspiring people and their careers in the Not for Profit sector.
Founded in 1965, Diabetes WA is the peak body and voice of diabetes in Western Australia. Its vision, Freedom from Diabetes, captures the focus of what the organisation does: minimise the impact of diabetes in Western Australia.
What are you currently working on in your organisation?
I’m working in the marketing department at Diabetes WA (DWA) on a few different projects. We’re trying to streamline systems and make the sharing of information (internally and throughout our membership base) more efficient and relevant. There is so much happening in the diabetes world, especially online, so working out how to best capture all the information and disseminate it is a task I find very engaging, dynamic and challenging.
What drew you to the Not for Profit sector?
The ability to build communities, and to help people who need or want it. I’m also really passionate about sharing information and working together to make improvements that really benefit people. Working in the Not for Profit sector, including my role at DWA, really enables me to contribute to and be a part of positive social change. I find that very rewarding.
How long have you been working in the Not for Profit sector?
About three and a half years.
What was your first job in the Not for Profit sector?
I co-founded and coordinate a group called YWAIT (Young Western Australian Insulin Takers), a social support space for young adults in WA living with type 1 diabetes.
What is the best thing about working in the Not for Profit sector?
Being a part of positive change, getting to do something you’re really passionate about and working with a bunch of great, like minded people in order to achieve goals.
My greatest challenge is…
Balance.
