Another Aussie B Corporation

Australia’s second B Corporation has been named, joining a list of around 600 organisations around the world that are changing the way they do business.
The Projection Room, a Melbourne based project management consultancy company, has joined the impact-investment firm Small Giants in adapting their organisations to become new types of corporations that use business to solve social and environmental problems.
Founder of The Projection Room, Bec McHenry, said her small organisation launched in December 2011 was ‘born’ to become a B Corporation.
“I read about B corporations and thought that it was a great initiative,” she said.
“I always wanted to become a B Corp.
“All the projects we work on affect positive outcomes.”
The organisation behind the B Corporation movement, B Lab, announced their commitment to certify 100 B Corporations outside the U.S. by 2013.
“Impact requires scale and global reach; by extending the B Corp movement into emerging markets in South America, India, Asia, and Africa, the B Corp movement will have dramatic impact on the development of more inclusive and sustainable economies,” B Lab Co-founder Andrew Kassoy said.
“There are hundreds of companies operating in Australia who could easily get B Corp certification,” McHenry said.
At the moment the benefits of becoming a B Corporation are limited in Australia compared to the United States, but McHenry is confident that as the movement continues to grow it will encourage larger organisations to become part of it.
“There will be more participants as the benefits grow,” she said.
Certified B Corporations are a new type of corporation that uses the power of business to solve social and environmental problems.
