Victorian Government Releases NDIS Plan
6 June 2012 at 3:33 pm

The Victorian Coalition Government has released a draft plan to prepare for the upcoming rollout of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

The state government said that the The Victorian State Disability Plan 2013- 2016 will focus on improving access to neighbourhoods, public spaces, buildings and transport for people with a disability.

The Victorian Minister for Mental Health, Women’s Affairs and Community Services, Mary Wooldridge, said that the draft will assist people with a disability to participate in the community.

“This is an exciting opportunity to improve the way we support people with a disability and to make sure Victoria continues to lead and drive the implementation of the National Disability Insurance Scheme,” Wooldridge said.

The plan will focus on four key policies and outline how the government proposes to:

  • Develop a strong foundation for learning, jobs and health for people with a disability
  • Protect the rights of people with a disability and promote their participation in the community
  • Improve access to neighbourhoods, public spaces, buildings and transport for people with a disability
  • Prepare Victoria to make a successful transition to a viable National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and reformed system of disability support.

"I invite input from across the Victorian community, particularly people with a disability, their families and carers, advocacy groups, funded community organisations, and local government,” Wooldridge said.

The draft plan is open for community consultation and feedback until Wednesday 11 July 2012.

The plan will be finalised by 1 January 2013.
