Amnesty Australia Calls for Volunteers

Amnesty International Australia is calling for volunteers from across the country to assist with its upcoming human rights campaign.
The Group Organising Program, part of Amnesty Australia’s ‘action group support initiative’, says it wants the volunteers to help strengthen and develop local communities.
Program Coordinator Zoe Croft said the campaign is an “opportunity for you to become a leader in supporting the vital work for human rights change.”
Volunteers who are accepted into the program, which is set to begin in July 2012, will be required to “equip activists with skills and knowledge to ensure their activism is strategic and effective,” Croft said.
The volunteers will provide support, information, and training to allocated ‘action groups’.
Amnesty Australia’s website says “being involved in one of our Action Groups is a great way to meet like-minded people and to take practical action against human rights violations.”
Action groups already operating are focusing on issues such as women’s rights, education, and religion.
“We are interested in people who are strong in communication, have experience working with volunteer groups and have a desire to cultivate a team environment,” Croft said.
Amnesty International Australia is part of the global movement Amnesty International, founded in 1961 by London Barrister Peter Beneson to protect human rights.
