Feedback Sought On ‘Volunteering Portal’ Website

Victoria’s Volunteering Portal, a government-run website, is calling on Not for Profit organisations to complete a survey aimed at improving the recruitment and support of volunteers.

The survey primarily seeks feedback from representatives of Victorian-based Not for Profit and volunteer organisations.

The Manager of the Volunteering Portal website, Jen Pascoe, said the survey “will help us to better meet your needs and support all organisations in the sector.”

Pascoe also invites people who volunteer to complete the survey. She said the response from both groups – “volunteer involving organisations” and volunteers themselves – will inform the ongoing development of the ‘portal-website’.

The survey, which closes at 5.30 pm on 12 June 2012, asks questions such as: “Has the website helped me to find a volunteer position?”, and, “Was the information described in the [volunteer] position description enough to help me find a suitable volunteer opportunity?”

The website is managed and published by the Victorian Government's Community Participation Program, a unit of the Department of Planning and Community Development (DPCD).

The volunteering survey is the second part of a wider review undertaken by the DPCD.

Nivy Balachandran from the Community Participation Program said the first stage of the review consisted of community engagement and focus groups. According to Balachandran both volunteer and Not for Profit organisations, as well as people who volunteer, were consulted. The key themes to emerge from this first stage of the review are currently being discussed internally.

The portal-website is a source of information for people looking to volunteer and for organisations that manage volunteers.

The survey can be completed at Victoria’s Volunteering Portal website.
