Rosemary Barca, Manager at Emerge, Women & Children's Support Network, is profiled in Changemakers, a regular column which examines inspiring people and their careers in the Not for Profit sector.

Emerge is the only independent autonomous specialised family violence service located in Victoria's Southern Metropolitan Region and offers support and outreach programs to women, and women with children, fleeing domestic violence.

How long have you been working in the not-for-profit sector?

Since early 2004

What is the best thing about working in the not-for-profit sector?

Knowing that the work we do is about securing positive outcomes for people rather than making a profit. And I find it really heartening when businesses and individuals come forward in a giving capacity; donor generosity never ceases to amaze me.

I’m always being asked…

What drew me to the Family Violence sector

If you could be or do anything else, what would it be?

If I didn’t have a family, I’d join the Australian Federal Police

If I could have dinner with 2 people from history, who would they be?

Henry VIII and Gregory Peck

School taught me…

To look out for the underdog and those who got bullied – my first brush with social inequality and injustice.

What inspires you?

People who give their time and money in support of a worthy cause.
