Greens Protest NDIS Restrictions

The Greens plan to raise concerns in Parliament this year about limits placed on the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme).
Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens spokesperson on disabilities was concerned about the proposal to limit access to the NDIS for those who acquire their disability under the age of 65.
She said the NDIS would create a "two-tiered system" by giving less support to older people with disabilities.
"During the Senate inquiry I chaired this year into ageing with a disability, evidence was presented about the poorer services available to those living with disability over the age of 65," said Siewert.
"The NDIS is supposed to fix our disability services, not make the situation worse for some people.
"Our age care system is not necessarily the right place for those living with a disability, simply because they are over 65.
"I will be raising this issue in any discussions with the Government over the NDIS next year," said Siewert.
Meanwhile the campaign to bring in the NDIS – Every Australian Counts – is celebrating its first birthday on Australia Day and says there will be "celebrations aplenty."
