The FRSA National Conference opened today on the Gold Coast, with well-known motivational speaker Edward de Bono to deliver the keynote address.

More than 500 delegates from around Australia are expected to to attend including Dr. Edward de Bono, Commonwealth Attorney General the Hon. Robert McClelland MP, Parliamentary Secretary the Hon. Julie Collins MP and the Chief Justice of the Family Court of Australia Diana Bryant.

The focus of the conference will be on supporting Australian families and responding to their changing needs.

Conference organisers say a major element of the three day event will be workshops to assist the workforce in responding to current social issues.

Particular areas of focus for the event – now in its fourth year – will be leadership, mental health and family law.

Family Relationship Services Australia (FRSA) Executive Director Samantha Page was pleased to secure such a stellar speakers’ list.

“Dr. Edward de Bono is an internationally renowned speaker, and we are excited to hear about his innovative approaches to workforce development”, said Ms Page.

“We are also pleased to have Federal Government representatives such as Attorney General Robert McClelland and Parliamentary Secretary Julie Collins, who will discuss government initiatives relevant to the sector including the Family Support Program.”

According to organisers, also headlining this year’s conference will be Dr. Fiona Arney, Head of the Child Protection Research Program at the Menzies School of Health Research and Jonathon Nicholas, CEO of the Inspire Foundation. Both of these presenters will discuss the wellbeing of children, with innovative approaches to preventing abuse and achieving and improved quality of living.

This year’s conference has record attendance and will be held at the RACV Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast.

As part of the 2011 theme of innovation, delegates will be provided with a free smartphone application to download. The Grupio App. is custom designed for conferences, with the entire schedule, speaker bios, exhibitors, hotel floor plans, maps, surveys and social media relevant to the FRSA National Conference 2011.

The smartphone app. is available on three platforms; Apple iPhone, Android and a web-based portal.
