The website for the Australian Charities and Not for Profits Commission Implementation Taskforce – one of the Gillard Government’s major reforms of the Not for Profit (NFP) sector – is now live.
The ACNC will be an independent regulator for the NFP sector with a staff of around 90 officers, reporting to Parliament through the Treasurer.
The Government has provided $53.6 million over four years for the establishment of the ACNC
Interim Commissioner and Head of the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission (ACNC) Implementation Taskforce, Susan Pascoe AM, says “it is important that the sector and the community be kept informed of our activities regardless of where they are located geographically across Australia.”
The website also provides links to the ACNC taskforce’s YouTube channel which includes videos explaining key aspects of the ACNC and the broader Not for Profit reform agenda.
The website allows interested parties to keep up to date with the ACNC Taskforce’s activities and development.
The ACNC Implementation Taskforce says the launch of the website and the YouTube site are the beginning of an engagement process, and there will be opportunities coming up for the community to contribute ideas and comments on the new regulatory framework through a discussion paper, online forum and face to face consultations.
The ACNC will initially be responsible for registering NFP entities as charities and Public Benevolent Institutions and will implement a 'report-once use-often' reporting framework for charities, provide education and support to the sector on technical matters, and establish a public information portal by 1 July 2013.
The ACNC’s main business operations will be based in Melbourne, with a smaller presence in Canberra.
