Discussion Paper On Interactive Gambling calls for Community Comment

The Gillard Government has released a discussion paper for the review of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 and called for the public to contribute to the review process.
The Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, says the review is consulting widely with key stakeholders, states and territories, and the broader community and will also consider the findings of the Joint Select Committee on Gambling Reform’s inquiry into interactive and online gambling and gambling advertising.
Senator Conroy says the paper seeks to promote discussion of the issues relevant to the regulation of interactive gambling in Australia.
He says responses to the paper will be used to assess the policy objectives of the Interactive Gambling Act and the roles that government, industry and consumers play in this area.
The paper is structured to outline and briefly discuss the key issues to be examined in the review and includes a number of broad questions relevant to these issues.
The discussion paper follows the Terms of Reference which were released by Senator Conroy on Friday, 19 August.
