An App to Improve Your Golf Swing for Charity

US Golfing great Tiger Woods is set to be one of the first high profile sportsman to produce an App to raise money for charity – in this case his own Foundation, which works to improve educational opportunities for young people.
The Tiger Woods Foundation and Shotzoom, a lifestyle mobile applications producer, have launched the Tiger Woods: My Swing App for the iPhone and iPod touch.
According to the Foundation, the App helps golfers of all skill levels improve their swing through video analysis and instruction from Tiger himself.
It says Shotzoom and the Foundation worked hand-in-hand with Woods to develop a unique app that will also benefit the Tiger Woods Foundation and its mission to provide college access for underserved youth.
Dozens of Charity Apps have been developed in recent times to encourage people around the world to donate to their favourite causes such as UGive and Causeworld. (check out more at http://appmodo.com/14286/top-10-charity-apps-to-help-you-give-for-iphone-and-ipod-touch/)
However, the Tiger Woods App appears to be the first by a sportsperson.
The technology allows golfers to capture video of their swing so they can analyze it; compare it with Woods and their friends; and see their swing improve over time. Woods serves as a virtual coach, teaching golfers how to use swing-line analysis and providing tips on specific areas of improvement. The App also includes personalised videos shot by Woods which address fan questions.
Woods says he’s thrilled that in addition to providing fans with a fun way to analyze their golf game, this app will benefit the college access programs of his foundation.
He says from the funds raised, they can continue to give many more young people a shot at college.
Tiger Woods: My Swing integrates with Shotzoom's Golfshot community, described as the world's largest active golf community with more than a half-million active members.
The App is priced at $US 9.99 and is available in 12 languages: English, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish.
Since 1996, the Tiger Woods Foundation says it has reached more than 10 million young people by delivering unique experiences and innovative educational opportunities for youth worldwide.
