Masterchef Spoof Highlights Global Poverty

Compassion Australia has spoofed the wildly popular Masterchef program in their latest advertisement, drawing attention to the 1.4 billion people around the world who live on less than $1.25 a day.

The Compassion Australia video follows the example of World Vision, who recently created their own version version of the incredibly successful Old Spice ‘The man your man could smell like’ advertising campaign. Both videos are hosted on video sharing website YouTube, and present examples of NFPs embracing popular culture and social media to push their message.

In the spoof of the record breaking cooking show Masterchef, 3 finalists have to recreate meals for a child living in extreme poverty for less than $1.25 a day.

One contestant asks ‘I don’t know how I’m going to make this happen. How do a billion people do this everyday?’

The ad points out that 1.4 billion people live on less than $1.25 a day, and encourages viewers to either sponsor a child or donate to Compassion Compassion Australia.
