Aged Care Providers Need One Voice - Survey
28 July 2010 at 3:49 pm

Almost 80% of aged care providers want one body to represent all aged care facilities in Australia on a national level, according to a new industry survey.

The survey, by Bupa Care Services was released at a lunch held in Sydney attended by CEOs and representatives of some of the nation’s leading providers.

The survey found that 82% of Not for Profit organisations surveyed were in favour of the move.

Bupa Care Services Managing Director, Paul Gregersen says the survey came from concern over the level of fragmentation of the sector’s lobbying with more than 12 Federal and State organisations representing the sector.

He says having the one body would make providers more accountable as an industry.

The survey found that the top reasons for joining an industry body was to advocate and lobby government (65%) and to champion the aged care industry.

Bupa Care services says Aged and Community Care Victoria (ACCV) and Aged Care Queensland are examples of how combining Not for Profit and for-profits into the one body can work successfully.

Bupa Care Services operates 48 aged care facilities and Bupa Australia provides health insurance businesses that cover more than three million people.
