The Rudd Government’s Compact with the Third Sector hit a milestone this week with the 150th organisation signing on.
The Neurofibromatosis Association of Australian Inc. became the 150th organisation to sign the accord with Federal Government.
The NFAA is a small Not for Profit organisations offering support for those with the genetic disorder neurofibromatosis.
The National Compact was signed by the Prime Minister and representatives from Third Sector organisations in March this year.
The National Compact agrees that Australian Government and the Third Sector will work together to improve social, cultural, civic, economic and environmental outcomes, building on the strengths of individuals and communities. The collaboration will contribute to improved community wellbeing and a more inclusive Australian society with better quality of life for all.
The National Compact represents a commitment by the Australian Government and the Third Sector to genuinely collaborate to achieve this shared vision. The Compact’s shared principles provide a foundation for action to improve working relationships, strengthen Sector viability and develop and deliver better policy and programs.
Compact signatories from the Sector agree to work with all Australian Government agencies to achieve these goals.
Susan Horsley, Support and Development Officer with NFAA, says the Government and the Not for Profit sector need to work together – bringing the resources and coordinating capacity of government together with the social capital of community organisations, and the entrepreneurial spirit of business.
The 150 signatory organisations comes from across the Third Sector, working in areas such as health and social welfare, mental health, homelessness, heritage, the arts, the environment, sport, employment, volunteering and advocacy.
The Federal Government is calling on organisations across the Third Sector to sign up to the Compact.
