The original DepressioNet website has been revived online by a team of supporters after the current operator, Depressionet Services was shut down on March 9th after its Board chose to go into voluntary administration.
The site, www.depressionet.com.au, has reappeared online with a notice saying at team of ‘people like us’ will be slowly updating the website over the coming months.
It says the purpose of the site is to empower people to make informed choices and find solutions to the challenges of living with depression.
No names are attached to the team members attempting the revival but the website says the team behind the screens are ‘people like us’ i.e Australians living with depression and their families and friends.
The site says it will not be able to re-open the message board and chat area until financial support is obtained.
The site has not been updated since 2003 and points to current 24 hour telephone support being provided by Beyondblue, Sane and LifeLine.
The website also asks anyone interested in being part of the depressionet.com.au revival to make contact via the email link.
The online resource, run by Depressionet Services since 2006, closed its doors and a notice to DepressioNet supporters via the administrator, accounting firm PKF, on Thursday 11th March said the Board of Directors had placed the organisation into Voluntary Administration due to legal proceedings. No details of the legal proceedings have been released.
The closure has meant job losses for 25 employees and 80 volunteers.
A spokeswoman for the Administrator, PKF said she had no information on the revival of the website. Another creditors meeting in mid-April will decide the future of the current operating company, Depressionet Services.
