The Premier’s Community Volunteering Awards (Victoria) are calling for nominations in four categories for their 2010 Awards.

The awards aim to promote and celebrate the range and diversity of volunteering activities in Victoria. They recognise the wide range of community and personal benefits of volunteering and community participation.

Nominations are open in the following categories:

Community Volunteering Achievement Award
This award will celebrate and acknowledge not-for-profit groups and organisations in Victoria that are making a significant and sustained contribution to the development of their community through volunteering.

Community Volunteering New Technology Award
This award will celebrate and acknowledge not-for-profit community groups and organisations in Victoria that, are using new information and communications technology to create new opportunities for people to get involved in their community through volunteering

Community Volunteering Leadership Award
This award recognises outstanding individual volunteer leaders or managers at the forefront of change in community not-for-profit groups and organisations across Victoria. They are people providing leadership by encouraging adaptability, creativity and innovation in response to changing needs in the community.

Young People’s Community Participation Awards
This award recognises groups or activities which involve young people in leading, planning and making their own decisions. It celebrates the fact that young people are a fantastic source of energy, ideas, skills and innovation in a community. There are many examples of ways young people are involved in their communities, including developing and running community events; creating ways to develop stronger relationships between young people and the broader community; building skills and leadership amongst young people; and contributing to community strength and well-being. In this award category priority will be given to activities that show young people working together and making a difference in their community.

An award of a $5,000 cash prize will be presented to the winner in each category, with all finalists receiving a recognition certificate and a $500 cash prize.

Nominations close Wednesday 24th March 2010.

Awards will be presented during National Volunteer Week, 10-16 May 2010 (TBC).
