Hollingworth Trust Lecture 2000

Cape York Aboriginal Leader, Noel Pearson is described as articulate, energetic, provocative and passionate as well as being recognised as one of the most motivating and powerful speakers in Australia.

The Victorian-based Not for Profit WorkPlacement is delighted that Noel Pearson will deliver this year’s Hollingworth Trust Lecture, which is a critical component of WorkPlacement’s fundraising and advocacy activities.

WorkPlacement’s Justin Bown says Pearson’s passionate convictions concentrate on how to wean indigenous communities off welfare dependence and these convictions are formally expressed in his proposal called the Cape York Partnership Plan.

Fundamental to Pearson’s plan is the notion of partnership and developing a formal structure between all levels of government and communities to make decisions together and not in isolation.

Born in 1965 in Cooktown, Pearson is a Bama Bagaarrmugu of the Guuguwarra Nation from the Kalpowa and Jeanie River region. He is a law and history graduate of the University of Sydney. Pearson rose to prominence for his role with the indigenous negotiating team during the drafting of the Native Title Act in 1993. He is currently an adviser to the Cape York Land Council.

The Hollingworth Trust Lecture will be held on Thursday November 30th in the Grand Ballroom of the Hotel Sofitel, 25 Collins Street, Melbourne.
