‘Happiness in a Material World’

His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama, will be in Australia from 16-27 May, 2002.

The comprehensive national tour will include major events in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Geelong, Canberra and Sydney, in what will be the Dalai Lama’s first visit to Australia since 1996.

The 2002 Tour was instigated by a Tibetan Buddhist teacher in the Victorian regional centre of Geelong, Geshe Sonam Tharge. His Holiness accepted the personal invitation of Geshe Sonam Tharge to visit Australia, and will give a public talk in Geelong and offer a White Tara blessing for good health and long life.

“With great joy and anticipation we are preparing to welcome His Holiness back to Australia for the fourth time,” said the Tour’s National Director, Dr Alan Molloy.

“His Holiness agreeing to visit Australia for an extensive tour in 2002 will allow for tens of thousands of people to come into contact with his incredible warmth, compassion and wisdom,” said Dr Molloy.

“We want to ensure that as many people as possible hear about the Tour. The overall theme of the Tour will be ‘Happiness in a Material World’ and how to achieve mental peace and balance amidst the challenges of modern life. There will be special emphasis on young people and opportunities to engage with His Holiness.”

Thousands of people are expected to travel from all over Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia to attend the Dalai Lama’s teachings. The Dalai Lama will also visit New Zealand from May 27-31 2002.
