Training Up On Attracting Funds - Advertorial
4 March 2002 at 12:03 pm

Writing funding proposals and managing granting relationships takes time and skill as many newcomers to fundraising have found – and now a new series of one-day seminars by expert Genevieve Timmons is designed to help and support your Not for Profit activities.

The Training Up series of seminars is for staff, volunteers and board members of Not for Profit organisations, as well as professionals and strategic advisers whose work is to attract funds and support the activities of NFP organisations.

The seminar is designed for people at all levels of experience, from the person writing their first funding proposal, to those with years of success in attracting funds and support. Value is guaranteed for large organisations with multiple locations and complex staff structures, through to small and volunteer groups.

The seminar is open to individual registration, or can be negotiated to run on location with your staff and board team.

The seminars are lead by Genevieve Timmons, who has assessed thousands of funding proposals in her work as an executive with several Australian philanthropic foundations. She has delivered hundreds of training seminars and public addresses, nationally and internationally, on the subject of effective grant-seeking and grant management, drawing on more than 20 years of experience working on both sides of the table as a successful grant-seeker and grant-maker.

Genevieve is linked to global research and training networks in her work as a consultant in strategic philanthropy, and is also engaged in strategic planning assignments with foundations, trusts and individual donors.

Timmons says the program is a popular design with participants, featuring a mixture of skilled presenters, practical exercises, samples and examples, peer exchange, question and answer, and comprehensive course notes.

She describes the material as insightful and practical, including tried and tested strategies, up-to-the minute information, contacts and ideas to equip participants with transportable skills for their work in the third sector.

Guest presenters at the general seminars include Jean Ker-Walsh, from Ker Walsh Communications, and representatives from The Myer Foundation, the RACV Foundation, the Ian Potter Foundation and the Reichstein Foundation.

Topics covered during the day include:
 Mapping the territory of philanthropic and corporate funding in Australia
 Identifying funding sources
 Anticipating the pathway as a grant seeker
 Winning attitudes, expectations and troubleshooting
 Nuts and bolts of a funding proposal
 Building systems and a team approach in your organisation

The general attendance fee is $450 (including food throughout the day). Robin Hood discounts and limited bursary opportunities are also available.
