Philanthropy to Social Investment - Advertorial

Swinburne University of Technology is hosting a high-powered seminar in Sydney later this month through the newly established Asia Pacific Centre for Philanthropy and Social Investment.

Called “From Philanthropy to Social Investment” the seminar will ask what obligations does business have to the community, discuss its obligations to the law and to maximise returns for shareholders…and then ask is there more!

The establishment of the Asia Pacific Centre by Swinburne University in 2001 reflects the growing interest worldwide and in Australia in philanthropy and social investment according to the founding director Michael Liffman, and the former CEO of the Myer Foundation and the Sidney Myer Fund.

Michael Liffman says that a time when families, individuals and corporations are exploring new possibilities for philanthropy, the Centre will be of great interest to a wide range of people:

 Public affairs, marketing and sponsorship managers in corporations
 Professionals, including solicitors, accountants and investment advisers
 Fund managers and trustees
 Commercial entrepreneurs and investors
 Foundation personnel, community workers, social planners and public servants.

The Seminar will cover topics such as the strategies corporations have adopted from setting up foundations to integrating social investment into marketing.

Significant new initiatives have emerged and will impact on philanthropy and social investment in Australia. The moderators will be Michael Liffman, Ulrike Schuermann, the former CEO of the Australian Youth Foundation, Geraldine Skinner from the PM’s Community Business Partnership and Denis Tracey, the author of “Family Business, the Volatile Mix of Love, Power and Money”.

The Seminar will be held at the offices of the Benevolent Society of NSW in Paddington on Wednesday 27th March.

Pro Bono Australia readers are offered a $40 discount on the normal registration fee of $180. For more information and the special PBA Registration Form just send an e-mail to probono@probonoaustralia.com.au.
