Network for Online Legal Info

Increased use of the Internet to deliver legal information and services to the community has resulted in the formation of a new network.
The Online Legal Information Network (OLIN) is a NSW based network of non-profit providers using online technologies to deliver legal information and services to the community.
According to Sue Scott of the Law and Justice Foundation of NSW, agencies such as community legal centres, government agencies and courts have joined OLIN.
Scott says that in recent years there has been explosion of legal information and services being made widely available through the Internet.
She says the Online Legal Information Network aims to increase the use of online legal information and service delivery; promote best practice in the production and accessibility of legal information; and provide a forum for building knowledge and exchanging information in relation to online service delivery.
The Law and Justice Foundation will provide secretariat support for the network, which will meet three to four times a year. Issues to be covered include user research, information gaps and duplication, best practice, multilingual information, marketing and promotion, usability, and delivering services via email.
Network members include community legal centres, government agencies such as the Attorney General’s Department, the Department of Industrial Relations, Legal Aid and the Ombudsman’s Office, the Legal Information Access Centre, AustLII and the Law and Justice Foundation.
